Your Co-op, Your Vote
One of the seven Co-op Principles is Democratic Member Control. Every July Boone Electric holds an Annual Meeting for its members. Traditionally, we provide a meal, informational booths, hold our business meeting (required by our bylaws) and hold elections for our Board of Directors (2020's Annual Meeting does not reflect this because of COVID-19). The Board, using the bylaws, helps govern and direct all decisions for Boone Electric. We are owned by you! Members have equal voting rights (one member, one vote) and can exercise those member-owner rights at the meeting when voting on bylaw changes and board members. Your participation and input is vital not only to the success of BEC, but ensures we meet your needs and expectations.
Absentee Ballot (2020)
If the member whose name is on the membership cannot make the meeting, nor do they want or have a proxy voter, they may come to Boone Electric Cooperative, located at 1413 Rangeline (just south of I-70 on Rangeline St.) in Columbia to fill out a ballot. The ballot cannot leave the building. Absentee voting will be open June 15 – June 30. Voting hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. You are not able to vote at Annual Meeting if an absentee ballot is cast.
Voting absentee will not qualify you for the Annual Meeting registration gift of $35 electric credit. You must register at either drive-thru meeting location on Friday, July 10.
If the person whose name is on the membership is NOT available to come to the Annual Meeting to vote, they may designate a person, who is at least 18 years of age and living in the household, to vote on their behalf. Instructions and certificates will be available in July’s “Rural Missouri.” Only one proxy vote per person.
Registration by proxy qualifies the member's account for the Annual Meeting registration gift during either of the drive-thru meeting locations on Friday, July 10.
